She will lead meditations exploring how God is "At the Heart of it All" and the center of our lives. The Rev. Edie Bird, vicar of St. Jame's, Eureka Springs, will lead the Quiet Day meditations on Friday which focuses on Stewardship of the Soul and applying contemplative practices to 'tune-up' body, mind and heart. Registration for the full weekend is $150 with linens provided by Camp Mitchell or $135 if you provide your own.  Daily registration for Friday or Saturday only is $35 if you are staying for lunch or $50 if you would like to stay for both lunch and dinner. Registration forms are on the bulletin board in the lobby of the church.

Presentation from the Arkansas Death Penalty Moratorium Campaign

The Rev. Kay Morgan has arranged a DVD presentation entitled "The Death House Door" to be shown on Sunday, May 18th during the 9:00 a.m. Christian Formation classes.  The DVD presents the story of Carroll Pickett who served as Chaplain for the Texas Dept. of Corrections from 1982-1995 and counseled 95 inmates who were executed by lethal injection. This is a presentation by the AR Death Penalty Moratorium Campaign Steering Committee. Kay will show the DVD a second time at 2:00 p.m. on the 18th if there are people who would like to view it at that time. Please consider attending one of the presentations.

Food Pantry

May brings the Presiding Bishop's Summit on Poverty in the United States.  By all indications, the data says that poverty is at a higher rate now than it was when the War on Poverty was declared.  We will see what the 40 + organizations at this summit have to say.  We continue to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world, yet we cannot feed or provide health care for our own.  Definitely, health care is at a greater level than it was some 40 years ago. The last two months, the Food Pantry has fed 70 families, or 121 adults and 59 children. This month the Food pantry is asking for Spaghetti Sauce.

Adult Christian Education

Father Gary will be facilitating a class on prayer and the scriptures beginning this Sunday through Pentecost.  This class will meet in the library and is replacing the class discussing dreams in the Bible. Father Gary will be providing copies of the material to the class.  This is a first in a series of classes on prayer that will be offered in succession.
