 St. Peter's Ministries

Liturgy and Music

Acolytes- Acoltyes at St. Peter's serve on a volunteer basis every Sunday at the 10:30 a.m service and for special services during Holy Week and at Christmas. Both adults and adolsecents participate in the program.  The positions include Crucifer, a Gospel, and two torches.  For special liturgical services, a Thurifer is utilized for carrying incense.  All participants must complete training actitivites beore being placed on an acolyte team.  The teams rotate on a schedule throughout the year.

Ushers- Ushering is a ministry of service and allows you to actively participate in the functioning of St. Peter's.  Ushering provides an amazing chance to serve in a very important role for the church.  The purpose of the ushers is to ensure the best possible worship experience for those attending services.  The ushers greet arriving members or guests as they enter the church and pass out service bulletins as people go through the nave doors.  They find pew seating for people as the nave begins to fill.  They will usher during the offering, Eucharist and recessional and will clean and straighten the pews after the service.  The people who are called to this team have a positive, loving and welcoming attitude and enjoy reaching out and meeting new people.  St. Peter's is always looking for ushers.  If you are called to this ministry please contact the church office know.

Altar Guild- Altar Guild members, capable and dedicated men and women have the duty, honor, and pleasure of preparing the altar of church and chapel for all worship services.  Altar Guild is responsible for maintaining supply of wine and bread, for clean linens and vestments, polishing silver and brass, filling candles, arranging flowers, and setting up the altar, credence table, and all else that is needed to complete the preparation for worship services.  St. Peter's Altar Guild operates with four teams serving three months of the year.  It is rewarding on a personal level.  One gets to know more intimately those persons within the Altar Guild.  We would warmly welcome any that would like to join in this quietly important service to the church.  If any one of the congregation would like to serve, please contact Fran LaFace or tell the office staff.

Fellowship

Foyers- Foyers is the St. Peter's way of pulling together people from the fellowship community for simple evenings of food and fun.  The conregation is invited to sign up in mid-February.  Participants are then placed into groups of about 8 people.  These small groups meet monthly for dinner for the remainder of the year.  The dinners are hosted by the gorup members and have no agenda.  There is no program, no books to read, no work, and no committees.  There is no requirement to be a member of St. Peter's and no requirement to be a "couple".  A few groups join specifically as "family" groups, where children are part of the fun.  Foyer's is a means of becoming more connected to the St. Peter's community in a friendly, hospitable, delicious way.

Hospitality- The goal of the Hospitality Ministry is to make members and guests feel welcome when they attend Sunday morning services.  Whether it's a quick nibble between Christian Education classes and the Sunday service or a snack while visiting with others after the Sunday service, the Hospitality Ministry wants to make sure all people feel welcome at St. Peter's.

Pastoral Care

Card Ministry- The St. Peter's Card Ministry is a ministry that allows those who have very limited time or are unable to get out and about to participate in a ministry that has great meaning to the giver and receiver.  Each month, members of our St. Peter's family who have birthdays or anniversaries receive a card from their "friends at St. Peter's".  Once assigned a specific "day" for the year, the members of the card team function independently, getting their list of birthday and anniversary card recipients from our montly newsletter.  They are by the team chairperson as we learn of specific needs or if new supplies are available.  The EYC has gotten actively involved in the ministry and each month sends cards to residents of the Sherrifs Youth Ranch.  Pastoral Care makes the Card Ministry aware of other needs in the form of get well, sympathy, or thinking of you cards, congratulations and other opportunities.  St. Peter's has a "card request" box in the foyer that is checked every weekend for opportunities for contact in addition to the Team Members making sure the newspapers are scanned for accomplishments and awards that should be recognized.  It is a rapidly growing ministry, a special niche for those who want to servce in special ways.

Youth and Children

Nursery-St. Peter's offers loving nursery care for children birth through age 3.  The children are encouraged to expore their world and learn about Christ through active play, stories, and music.  Pagers are available so that parents can be reached if necessary.  The nursery is available on Sunday morning during Sunday School and the 10:30 service.  It is also available on Wednesday evenings from Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Christian Formation- The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children, ages 3-6 and 6-12.  Inspired by Montessori principles of education, the program originated in 1954 with the work of Sister Sofia Cavaletti in Rome, Italy.  The Catechesis is based on the conviction that God and the child are in unique relationship with each other.  The child has a deep need to experience and a special capacity to enjoy the presence of God.  In the "atrium" as you will hear the class referred to, the adult, or "catechist", is responsible to prepare the environment, present lessons in Scripture and liturgy, and invite the child's response through work of his or her choosing.  Work may include artistic expression, exploration of Bible stories with miniature figures and maps, and work with the materials, gestures, and prayers of the Eucharist.  When helped to live fully the encounter with God, the child's experience becomes formative of the whole person and generates great joy.

Adult Ed/Spiritual Formation
Please contact the church office for a current lisitng of our classes for adults.

Vestry Committees

Stewardship- Christian Stewardship is a vital part of our community life at St. Peter's.  Our annual stewardship campaign in October focuses on "What is God calling me to give?"  and the spiritual aspects of giving to the church rather than on the amount of money that is needed to fulfill the church's financial challenges.  When this attitude about stewardship is adopted, each church member's individual contribution can be seen as an act of personal worship, not as an obligation to God or to the church.  Currently, we are using the "New Consecration Sunday" program written by Herb Miller and our team is made up of seven dedicated members.
